Walter van Heuven

I am an Associate Professor at the School of Psychology, University of Nottingham.

I investigate language processing using a wide range of methods, such as behavioural testing (reaction times, eye movements), event-related potentials, function magnetic resonance imaging, and computational cognitive modelling. In particular, I am interested in understanding the processes underlying visual word recognition, bilingualism, the neural processes underlying word processing, the relationship between executive control and language, foreign language vocabulary acquisition, processing of subtitles, non-native speech perception, and developing computational models of visual word recognition.

Fully funded 4-year PhD studentship available for home student

Project: AI-based decoding of evoked neural activity to study bilingual language processing.

Start date: 1 October 2024

More information about the project, entry requirements, and the PhD studentship application procedure can be found on the Faculty of Science Doctoral Training Centre in Artificial Intelligence website. Deadline is 12 May 2024. For further details and to arrange an interview email me.
